Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.
This week there are couple of new things around the classroom to take note of -
A writing station where students can sit to do activities that promote fine motor skills.
A Book Worm wall display where students can add a sticker to their name for a book they have read and speech bubbles that they can fill in to recommend a book to others. If you can help your child to complete one of these every now and then, that would be great. I am also available to scribe in the mornings. We will spend some time reading these and promoting good books to read. It would be really good if the book is one from our own school library but that is not a prerequisite!
The over-arching theme this week will be on sharing. This will be an extension of the basic skill of sharing - learning how to cope with some who struggle with sharing and how to encourage sharing themselves.
Our song/poem, stories and writing will all be based on this concept.
For writing, the students will write a little narrative story based on the first time they had to share. We will be particularly focussing on including description of feelings in our story detail.
In maths, we continue with facts within and to 10, place value of two digit numbers and being able to solve problems using the 100's board. Please check out the additional maths page - I have put some games that you might like to try at home to help your child.
We have some mums coming in to help test children individually on their spelling. The essential spelling words that your child needs to learn are in the middle of their yellow book. I have put more details regarding spelling on a separate 'Spelling' page on this blog.
Have a great week!
