Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to Week 7 in B4.
The new classroom layout is working well for us all. It makes best advantage of the lovely big room, we are lucky to have.
This week, we are very happy to welcome Raewyn Duffy to our B3 and B4 whanau as our Learning Assistant. Raewyn has been helping out at Whangaparaoa Primary for a long time. She will add a lot of value to our children's learning. Raewyn will take some groups for extra literacy and maths and at other times, work alongside students in class.
This week in maths the under lying focus for all groups is addition and subtraction. Some groups are working on having a deep understanding and having this information instantly to hand. Other groups are seeing how they can apply these facts when working with bigger numbers.
Our writing topic is 'Rain' based on the dramatic weather we experienced last week. Keep an eye out for our wet weather art work. The goal for our writing is planning and then using that plan. Students are also learning to edit (fancy up) and self correct (fix up).
Our inquiry into whanaungatanga, connectedness, is moving onto the next stage. We are making explicit connections with the word community and making and analysing our own spider diagrams of our personal community. With this understanding we will investigate what other peoples' communities look like and consider how and why they may look different to our own.
Passion Friday was fun for all. Thank you for having your children prepared and ready to go for all their activities - that was great.
No rain is forecast this week so we will be good to go swimming on Wednesday and Friday.
Our library day is Thursday.
Finally, the Gala is on Saturday! Any baking can come to the office on Friday.
Have a great week!
