Kia ora koutou,
This week during our lessons, I have been picking up on focus groups and beginning to differentiate our work. To that end, there will be some testing done in class and you will soon find spelling and high frequency words in the centre of our homelink books.
In maths, we have been focusing on counting, place value, bonds to 5 and 10 and the meaning of symbols in maths 'sentences'.
So far in handwriting, we have covered the 'c' shaped letters - c, a, g, q and d. This week, we will link these letters to some more high frequency words.
We are continuing our animal/pet focus as we learn about the kinds of people we want to be. We have read a book about how everyone carries an invisible bucket that is filled when we give and receive kindness. That has been followed up and linked with the old favourite "Giraffes Can't Dance". This week we are finishing up some art work on our bucket and discussing the lovely language from Giraffes. The students are getting very good at spotting rhyming words as we go through the day!
Finally, Lulu has settled in pretty well, I think! The novelty is slowly wearing off and our next step is for students to take some responsibility for feeding and cleaning on a rotational basis.
